Participants in the Model Matzah Bakery hear the story of Passover and the reason for eating Matzah in a humorous presentation. They learn just what goes into the making of Matzah. They grind, winnow and thresh real wheat stalks. They put on baker hats and knead, roll and perforate the dough. Finally, the Matzah is placed into an oven and baked with students enjoying the finished product while warm (or they can take home to show their parents).
Participants will gain new insights into the history and significance of the Shofar and its role in the High Holidays, using dozens of props and visual aids. Throughout the presentation, participants help cure, saw, drill, finish and shellac a ram's horn, to create a genuine kosher Shofar. During this “hands-on” workshop, the students are taught how to sound and practice the notes of the Shofar. At the end of the presentation, each group will be given their Shofar to keep in their classroom as a memento from this exciting workshop.
OPTIONAL - Take the program to a whole different level - Participants craft their OWN Shofar
Bringing Chanukah to Life...
Using the age-old method of Olive Oil Pressing (as well as some science), the program reviews the Chanukah story and its observances. With its tactile hands-on segments, its educational value, and the 'excitement factor' the program adds to your school, the Olive Press Workshop is a perfect 'exclamation point' added to your Chanukah curriculum.
